The Descendants of Mike and Phoebe - "A Spirit Speaks" (1974)

This album features siblings Bill Lee (bass), Consuela Lee Moorhead (piano), Grace Lee Mims (vocal), and Cliff Lee (fluegelhorn). The group was named after slave ancestors of the Lee family. This is an extraordinary record and one of the gems of the catalog.

I hadn't heard of bassist until recently, although I'd certainly heard his music many times. He was a renowned session musician who played with seemingly everyone of note (Ellington, Billie Holiday, Max Roach, Aretha...). He played bass on Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". He was the father of filmmaker

A few years ago I was in Barcelona and stumbled upon Wah Wah Records, a record shop/label which had reissued most of the Popol Vuh catalog. Suffice it to say, I returned home with some very heavy luggage and a much lighter wallet.
