This "Allergy Guide" trend needs to DIE. Or it's going to make me die. Increasingly restaurants will NOT show an ingredients list, but instead a simplified chart made for babies that only list the "big five" allergens.

As someone with an anaphylactic reaction to sunflower oil and flax which are NOT big five this is useless to me. So I just can't know if your food will kill me or not. So I don't buy it.

The number of places where I can eat keeps shrinking.

(sesame isn't even on their guide)

@futurebird I'm with you. My only food allergy is bell peppers and some places slide them in even when they list ten other vegetables, strongly implying those are the only ten present.

And one of my partners is very allergic to cayenne. Restaurants hardly ever list seasonings, and even packaged items frequently just list "and spices." Makes me want to scream.

So, yeah, we're those people who make the server go talk to the kitchen staff. Because we have to.

@futurebird Yeah... That seems short-sighted and like it's going to lose a decent amount business. Because it's not just people with allergies to things the place refuses to declare when present who wouldn't eat there. It's everyone who would have gone there with them.
