If you know any climate denier, you can show them that the extreme effects of climate change are happening now in the State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil. Our usual scenary was: a cold front would come from Argentina and, when arriving in Brazil, would clash with a hotter atmosphere and cause temporary rains since it always move towards the north. With climate and biome change, an unprecedented heat wave in central Brazil is blocking the cold front over RS. With the increase in ocean temperatures, the rain that was strong, have now turned into unparalleled storm. And they are concentrated only in this state, as the rest of the country have been without rains for 15 days due to the heat wave in central Brazil. (cont.)

The result is that of the 470 cities in RS, 401 were severely affected. RS is the same size as the United Kingdom, in fact it is 40 thousand km2 larger than the UK. The population reaches 11 million people. Porto Alegre, the capital with 2 million inhabitants, already has more than half of its area completely submerged, as you can see in the satellite photo. More storms and a cyclone are expected in the coming days. I have friends who lost everything and they were lucky because they didn't lose their lives. There are already 100 dead and more than 120 missing. Since 2015, the local and federal government has received (and ignored) reports about this tragedy. Now there is nothing left to do but evacuate millions of people. We will witness the first mass climate migration.
