I was reading one of my Japanese graded readers (stories for language learners) on the flight (since even in my 40s, being strapped into a seat is a great homework aid), and I accidentally replied to the flight attendant bringing around food in Japanese.

I may now have started an irrevocable chain of events where I’m not addressed in English again for the whole trip 😨

I've noticed that some words, like coffee, travel across multiple languages with minimal changes!

(
Since I never acquired a taste for "coffee", I take my caffeine carbonated, sweetened with "natural sugars" & chilled.
Is "Dr. Pepper" soda available in Japan?

A quick box model this morning in ! Anyone recognise the shape?

It needs to be as low poly as possible (for ), and the circles do look a bit blocky. I was thinking of creating a high resolution version, baking the normals, and using these for the blocky version.

That looks vaguely similar to the locking mechanism for the main hatch on an Apollo Command Module.

8- )

( I learned about this via a poly-collaborative effort to reproduce the hatch from CAD files, led by Adam Savage's "Tested" series, 4-5 years ago in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 1sr moon landing. :- )

During the pandemic years, I started to explore 3D printing, mostly via videos. My inner "maker" found this effort, Project Egress, fascinating and very interesting.

When you all have time, check out some of the individual videos by the various artists. Each brought a unique perspective to their builds of the various components!

Took a ship out in VRChat and... uh... landed it... SLIM lunar lander-style... but I hear that's how the coolest land nowadays.

Any landing from which you can "walk" away is a good one!!

Me n’ my asteroid chip! A selfie at the London Science Museum yesterday, seeing the exhibit of the grain from asteroid Ryugu returned by the Japanese Hayabusa2 mission. This is the first time I’d seen the exhibit after delivering the asteroid grain from JAXA to London last summer! (The how-to for smuggling asteroids is here: https://cosmos.isas.jaxa.jp/how-to-carry-an-asteroid-around-the-world/ )

Apropos to nothing... let's have a quiz! Which of these is NOT the name of an animal that went to space?

SaguaroLynx ,
@SaguaroLynx@c.im avatar

@elizabethtasker @grb090423

Thanks for the poll!

I learned quite a few things about the various animals launched into space* while searching for the names.

8- )

( * other names whose stories piqued my interest:

Félicette
Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum, & Phooey

& Arabella who you listed.

Evening meetings be like...

(This is Horizons Workrooms, where your computer connects to the headset to put the display into the meeting room and you can see--via the pass through cameras--a small square in front of you with your keyboard and... tea mug.)

It's no wonder that NorahNeko enjoys cuddles with you!!

You're wearing soft "sweatshirt"* & "sweatpants"* , topped with a fluffy fleece vest, you're drinking warm tea, AND you're sitting "still" for a while!

8- D

( * in the U.S., we call those "sweatclothes". I don't yet know what British or ex-pats in Japan call them. :- )

I have returned home and it has taken upwards of one hour to convince that I am not a resurrected zombie 🧟

(She crept up to me, let me pet her... and then bolted on to the balcony and wailed her confusion. It might have to be said that my cat is not big on change.)

Perhaps she was sending a distress call on your behalf via the Feline Emergency Network (F.E.N. :- ) ?

I am glad to read that you have safely returned home and are settling back into the comfort of "home".

I pray that you recover fully & quickly!
