I suppose I’m a left-of-center liberal who flirts w/ anarchism & libertarianism. Thr’s a lot of alt, electronic, exp’tal, & “world” music I like. I’m working on fan-fix-tion for The Handmaid’s Tale and Star Trek.

It should be in proper English: not these new interpretations—as if they could re-write the Bible—blasphemy! I say.

1 And God spake all these wordes ad saide:

5. If the 2024 presidential election were being held today between Joe Biden, the Democrat, and Donald Trump,
the Republican, who would you vote for?

Among likely voters, including those leaning toward Biden or Trump

Joe Biden . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 49%

Donald Trump . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50%

Someone else/third party . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1%

Not sure . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0%

The 2-party state lives on.

Notably, the poll found that mass deportation was popular with Hispanics, with 53 percent saying they would favor such a program and 47 percent saying they would oppose it. White people were more supportive of mass deportations, with 67 percent saying they would back the program, and 33 percent saying they would oppose it. Among Black people, it was 47 percent in favor and 53 percent opposed.

Anglo farm workers go on strike, and the replacements have been deported.

They send in the police.

Some Anglo workers have their own guns.

Meanwhile oranges are apparently cheaper in Japan, Canada, UK, Switzerland, and Russia than in the US.

Well done, bigots—enjoy you're even higher food prices—and paying Gen As even more to get your grass cut.

"He's allowed Big Tech as well as the looters to take over Silicon Valley. San Francisco has been the science experiment that's gone awry. I wake up in the morning, there's no grocery stores to go to, there's no malls to take my teenage girls shopping to. The streets are not safe, there are more fentanyl users and dealers than high school students in our once great city," she continued.

She sounds totally credible with her definitely non-exaggerated and probably totally truthful statements.

I'll stick to refilling old bottles with tap water.

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

Normally one puts used 2-liter pop bottles into recycling.

Occasionally I reuse one a few times.

Why would I buy a water bottle when I essentially have one—at times several—already?

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe, but such would be insufficient, IMO.

We must cease using all plastic:

plastic shopping bags, plastic textile bags, nylon, polyester, food wrap, margarine tubs, most electronics, automobiles, electric bikes, pedal bikes, definitely tires, plastic sandwich bags, tea bags, pens, chewing gum, filters, plastic pill bottles, plastic syringes, plastic in diapers, plastic in bandages, plastic in tampons, use only glass bottles for shampoos and conditioners, non-plastic combs and brushes, (most) imitation leather, plastic election signs, plastic gardening pots and trays, plastic garden hoses, plastic piping, plastic fuel containers, plastic casings for batteries, plastic electric chords, plastic in masks for the next pandemic, etc.

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

Those go into recycling, which, IIUC, mostly go into the landfill because Toronto doesn't rigourously enforce preparing and sorting recyclables enough.

For a while I used a 1.5 liter vodka bottle (mostly as a lark) but it got broken.

Metal containers also aren't transparent—I like to see what I'm drinking.

If re-use of plastic isn't the answer, then recycling is definitely not the answer.

At least 8 billion humans must stop using plastic.

Perhaps a more realistic solution would be to sterilize humanity now: that way, by 2099, the environment will start to significantly improve.

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

I don't use ice nor do I use filters: just straight from the tap.

At best the movie seems too Poe's law for me.

We don't see women beating up Nazis.

We see SJWs and alt-rightists having shouting matches, few rightists at Gaza protests, and few leftists at Trump rallies (which might be a good thing in the case of the latter 2).

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

When was this B&W pic taken? The 1980s , or before? and he doesn't seem to be recoiling.

Idk what's going on on the campuses or other protests, but it seems to me if the pro-Palestinians are shoved off, it won't be by a few nazi-punks or Israel-flag-wavers, but by the police, and even they are probably reluctant.

If Biden loses it will be because of this (and yes, he'd deserve it).

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

good points. 😁🙂

Presumably,

Mao self-identified as a Communist (or something like it) and is today defended by such.

Deng self-identified as a Communist (or something like it) and is today defended by such (at least by many Chinese).

Palestinians, Gazans, and Jews were victims of the Crusaders.

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

good point.

though I think they were a little bit more socialist in the earlier years.

I don't like any of them.

might as well throw this in:

wp:Albanian–Chinese split

By the early 1970s, however, Albanian disagreements with certain aspects of Chinese policy deepened as the visit of Nixon to China along with the Chinese announcement of the "Three Worlds Theory" produced strong apprehension in Albania's leadership under Enver Hoxha. Hoxha saw in these events an emerging Chinese alliance with American imperialism and abandonment of proletarian internationalism.

The might have been the reasons, or some of the significant reasons, for the protest but I don't think Mao would have tolerated them more than did Deng.

nor did the Maldives fight a war for its very existence on the first day of its independence.

Have you been there, anon?

wp:Maldives

Since the adoption of the 2008 constitution citizens and anyone wishing to become a citizens are required by law to nominally follow Sunni Islam[176] which would make Maldives a 100% Muslim country in theory.

DMBFFF ,

okay.

I hope you enjoyed your visit. 🙂

DMBFFF ,
@DMBFFF@lemmy.world avatar

The Jewish presence in Palestine is older than the Muslim.

For that matter, those in the Maldives were Buddhists before they became Muslim.

Instead of blaming the victims of European antisemitism which kind of necessitated Zionism, you might wag your finger at Europe too for this.
