I'm going to have a running thread of music I buy. A record (ahem) for me really. Because I lack discipline in actually giving music enough time and this might help. If someone else discovers a new artist then great. Mute #KeefsNewTunes if it's unwelcome.
Hot Fruit by Adeline Hotel. Instrumentals centred around acoustic guitar. Is it really a #jazz album? Not convinced. There is improvisation. It's very rich in texture with piano, slide guitar, harp and more swirling gently around. Goes well with dappled sun. #KeefsNewTunes
Today's new listen. The music of #Moondog. It's the fantastic playing of the Ghost Train Orchestra and Kronus Quartet that underpins it. Contributions from the likes of Rufus Wainwright, Joan as Policewoman, Jarvis Cocker and others. It's labelled as both #jazz and #classical on Bandcamp. But the #NewYork tag is probably the right one.
Another recent purchase: Continuing by the Tyshawn Sorey Trio. I'm growing into it but it's not as immediate as Mesmerism was for me. Four long standards (although all new to me) so the band has time to stretch out and explore. #jazz#KeefsNewTunes
Next up. STILLPOINT by pianist Awadagin Pratt. He asked six composers to write pieces in response to a TS Eliot poem. I don't know the poem but the music (piano, strings, voices) definitely demands attention. Very much in my sweet spot. Tyshawn Sorey (see toot above) contributes. File under #ContemporaryClassical I guess. #KeefsNewTunes
