So, while I still wouldn't mind a short bus, a Van is probably gonna be a better option fuel wise. I can't find anything in a short bus that starts at more than 10mpg. And that's Diesel and Unleaded.

Just got to work out my space ideas then.

Coming to the end of another spectacular fortnight in the Hebrides. This annual trip just gets better every year.

Here are some of my highlights.

More Far North smalls. Although introduced from AU, this Ranoidea aurea | green & golden bell frog is 1st 🐸 we’ve spotted in the “wild” at Waitangi Treaty Grounds (📷1). Dicathais orbita | cart-rut shell, a predatory sea snail, at Hendersons Bch (📷2). Rare Naultinus grayii | Northland green 🦎 gecko, captive at Gumdiggers Park (📷3), where an ancient insect (mosquito?) is entombed in kauri gum (📷4).

Robust ridges in the white shell of this snail
A gecko looks out from behind glass; shed skin can be seen on its forelimb
An insect trapped in amber; man-made inclusions were at one time produced as trinkets

FYI, there are "yachts" and then there are yachts. For every billionaire's mega-yacht with helicopter pads and dozens of crew and whatnot, there are thousands of decades-old, sub-40-foot sailboats that some hippie bought for $1 and spent a year fixing up at the marina in hopes of doing the nautical equivalent of .

Unfortunately, the ones being attacked by the orcas tend to be closer to the latter.
