~9 yrs after his #indictment on charges of #felony security #fraud, #Texas AG #KenPaxton reached a deal w/prosecutors to avoid a #criminal #trial next month.
The deal does not involve any admission of guilt but requires #Paxton to pay ~$300k in restitution, take #legal #ethics classes & do 100 hrs of #CommunityService.

The judge in the case, Andrea Beall, asked questions but observed that the agreement had been made between the parties & the court could not block it.

“No judge can force a prosecutor to present evidence or call witnesses. This court does not have any say in this contract,” Judge Beall said before asking if the signature on the document was his.

“Yes it is,” replied.

For , a 3-term incumbent, the agreement was another victory over opponents who have long hoped that his troubles would lead to his undoing. Last yr, survived an by fellow in the House over separate accusations of & made by his fmr top aides at the AG’s office.
