#OTD 24 June 1751 Eric Ericsson married Stina Månsdotter in Grebo Parish, Östergötland. Eric took over the croft of Lilla Björksved on the lands of Rösten from Stina's father. The couple had eight children: four sons and four daughters.
Stina, my 5th-great-grandmother, is the earliest known ancestor with an inherited health condition that has plagued this branch of my Swedish family. Her story, with many questions, appeared in a blog post last year. #genealogy

Charles Babbage proposes a difference engine in a paper to the Royal Astronomical Society.
The difference engine is based on the method of divided differences, a way to interpolate or tabulate functions by using a small set of polynomial co-efficients. Some of the most common mathematical functions are built from logarithmic & trigonometric functions, which can be approximated by polynomials, so a difference engine can compute many useful tables.
