@mountainwitch Truly amazing. The last full solar eclipse I saw was back in Iran in 1976. It was amazing, my father had prepared special glasses for al of us from his welding equipment, we all watched it without knowing that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
That is SO cool. Huge thanks for posting it. Am excited for totality here in Vermont today — and we’ve 160,000 guests!! Except in the Grateful Dead era, we don’t pull those kinds of numbers, it’s 1/4 of our low population. Streams of sun loving traffic!
“So that’s where you look for aliens. In the course of an eclipse totality track. When everybody else is looking awestruck at the sky, you need to be looking round for anybody who looks weird or overdressed, or who isn’t coming out of their RV or their moored yacht with the heavily smoked glass.”
Where to look for #alien tourists – from Iain (M) Banks’s 2009 novel TRANSITION
@scotlit@bookstodon if you pay very close attention and look out for people acting in the strangest ways at the most mundane of things, looking completely and utterly out of place while they do, you will see them everywhere!
The sky looked like this most of the time here, but I did get to see the eclipse at peak, almost 90%. Weirdly, nobody else around me had eclipse glasses or was paying the slightest attention to the sky. #eclipse#eclipse2024
