Another album released Friday, also from #DeutscheGrammophon, is Julius Asal's Scriabin – Scarlatti, which seems to have some good reviews, but perhaps I will have to listen to it a couple of times to see it? Asal seems like a competent pianist, yes, but not "uncommon." #piano
Ah, Julius Asal is 27. Much older than he looks. I don't imagine many of the great teachers in Europe are going to take a 27 year old under their wings. He's just been thrown out there like it or not with the skill-set he has now. That perhaps happens too often. Still, he landed a great record deal. Perhaps I am at fault and I just don't hear it.
Another reason to get #DeutscheGrammophon's Stage+, is live performances. I am looking forward to Lang Lang & Gina Alice performing #SaintSaëns's Carnival of the Animals, with #AndrisNelsons of all people conducting! Live steam both Saturday and Sunday. #classicalmusic@classicalmusic
Last weekend on Stage+ I watched Lisa Batiashvili, Gautier Capuçon and Zubin Mehta perform #Brahms. I have most of #LisaBatiashvili's album, she is a lovely #violinist, with a clear unique style. I had never visually seem her perform before. But of course, #GautierCapuçon, seemed to me, to try to steal the performance. He is a good #cellist and he has been on some really good albums as a collaborator, but he rubs me the wrong way. He is not that great. Perhaps he's a nice guy.
It was an excellent performance. Be sure to catch it tomorrow. I didn't realize Gewandhausorchester Leipzig is who Andris Nelsons recorded his Bruckner albums with. So not so surprising. I only have 2 of those and maybe listened to each one once. I have all of his Shostakovich albums, but those are with the BSO. It is clearly not "live" so Deutsche Grammophon is playing fast and loose with the word "live." On the upside, the recording is being released on March 1st.
