The UK still pays more fuel and road tax than the rest of Europe.

The issue isn't with how much tax is paid, the issue is with corrupt MP's wasting it with contracts for their mates/party donors.

Highest in diesel, but only 8th highest in petrol, and road tax hasn't existed in the UK since the 1920s.

Pzulu ,

Fair, it is called Vehicle Excise Duty. 'Road tax', 'Car tax' or even 'Road fund license' are all valid alternative names for it that people would know instantly.

So to go back to the point, I also believed the UK had the highest Vehicle Excise Duty in the whole of the European area.

I have not actually read up on that though, so am off to do it now.

UK seems to be on the lower end of vehicle taxes among European countries.

"Road tax" is a pretty harmful misnomer that implies the tax is paying for the roads (it isn't) and that everyone using the road should pay the tax.

Mr_Smiley ,

It would have just been squandered elsewhere.

Yep, like being paid to their friends for PPE that does work or doesn't turn up!

Maybe Jacob Reece-Mogg could stick notes to their desks and they might 'get the message'
