Yun Bing (Chinese: 惲冰, dates unknown), courtesy names Qingyu (Chinese: 清於) and Haoru (Chinese: 浩如), was a Chinese painter during the Qianlong era. She is well known for her bird-and-flower paintings executing the "boneless" technique, and became the most famed of the Yun family's female artists.
The painting depicts a traditional Swedish Midsummer celebration in the province of Dalarna. In the background to the right there is a maypole with a Swedish flag at the top. The dancers are all wearing folk costumes. In the House with a red gable the first morning light is reflected....
Based on Giovanni Boccaccio's The Decameron (14th century), the painting depicts a scene from the first tale of day five; Iphigenia is sleeping in the woods and Cymon, a young nobleman, stands gazing at her beauty which fills him with inspiration. After seeing her, Cymon changes from a badly mannered lout to an ideal polymath.
Been thinking about this after someone posted a video to this community for the first time...
