This figure ignores women who left the field due to sexual harrasment.

The worst part is that the victim has to abandon her career, instead of the perpetrator.

And water is wet. I mean... were they expecting something else? Pretty sure those numbers aren't relegated to a single country, either.

I wasn't expecting such a grim figure.

I'm actually surprised it's not 100% to be honest. I'm gearing up for my masters right now, have worked in academia in the US, and can say from experience that the boys club is in full force in higher ed here. It's unfortunate but also unsurprising since it really hasn't been even 100 years that women have regularly been allowed to even be in academia. Kind of a bummer but it's to be expected when social progress is a slow thing.

I agree with you. The only thing surprising to me about this was it was lower than I thought. It should be 0, but that obviously isn't happening yet unfortunately

That's awful. I'm not in academia at all and I'm... glad? Not only it's terrible for the women in the field but also for humanity at large as I'm sure we're missing out on a lot - a hostile environment like that is bound to repel most.

Oh yes. A ton. Women and people of color in the US.
