The only surprising thing to me is that there were not more responses. Most of the rest of it is what I mostly expected.

The lack of women on Lemmy can easily be accounted for from the lack of women on Reddit, and most of us being refugees from there, and the fact that this is more complicated than Reddit to get into.... Not saying the women can't or wouldn't put in the effort to understand or anything like that, just that there's a lot of technical folks here and it's a field mostly dominated by men... Programmers, IT, communications techs.... Very male heavy.

As an IT guy, I've seen it. I don't like it, and I'd like to see more women represented in my field, but it's currently the case that there's just not very many women in IT and communications right now. Anytime I encounter a woman working in tech, I do my damnedest not to treat them any differently than my male co-workers; and I always look out for anyone being sexist about it. So far, no issues. I don't want to treat someone differently just because they have different bits between their legs. When it comes to IT, such things are less than trivial. IT in all flavors is brain-heavy work and nothing about the nuances of your gender have anything to do with your ability to understand.

That being said, I've encountered some super idiotic statements from coworkers. Most of them coming from guys. A fresh face, regardless of gender can bring new perspectives and ideas, which is what usually leads to solving problems. There's nothing worse than banging your head against an issue and getting nowhere because you're looking at it the wrong way.
