@stina_marie@horrorbooks@horror the only other book by her that I tried was The Return and I ended up tossing it in the DNF pile. There's some horror horror in this one but it's also soap opera-ish like the Sookie Stackhouse books

(I've already been doing this over on Bluesky and am several days in, so I'm going to do my best to not get mixed up on the days I'm on 😆) @bookstadon#horror@horrorbooks
@Well_Worth_A_Read@horrorbooks Oh, wow: I'm a little envious you get to read this for the first time, lol. It's superb. You'll enjoy it whenever you get to it!
My #bookreview is brief/won't spoil, to spread good, great, & spectacular #horror#books far & wide.
💙📚 You may presume you'll know the story that unfolds in I THINK I'M ALONE NOW, but you'll be wrong as hell. I read this novella in a single sitting: Ali Seay has written a thoroughly enjoyable, vivid, violent, deliciously dark chunk o' horror set in the 80's that's, like, totally rad. (Grindhouse Press)
@kimlockhartga@horrorbooks@horror I bought a kindle copy of The Institute but still never got around to it yet. Later was not really horror either but it was a good story.
Eight-year-old Bela is the only child in a dysfunctional family full of secrets. Bela has also been keeping her own secret from Mommy and Daddo. She's been talking to an entity that hides in her closet. Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman brought back all of my childhood nightmares. I had to step away from this book more than once because it was scaring me. My review is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2024/05/incidents-around-house-by-josh-malerman.html#horror@horror@horrorbooks
@Well_Worth_A_Read@horror@horrorbooks I am not happy about it triggering night terrors in you but this is a good sign I may actually find it scary so I appreciate this info 😆
I love social/message horror. I feel like I've seen just about every movie there is in that vein, at least in English. Anybody have recommendations of less famous books in that subgenre?
Or even any that taught you something, helped you understand a new perspective, concept, etc.?

💙📚 THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THROUGH by Paul Michael Anderson is a compelling collection w familiar tropes that go to dark & unexpected places. Full of cosmic horror goodness, with dashes of folk & creature horror for extra flavor, this novella & 4 short stories will keep you entertained & satiated. (Cemetery Gates)
It's not my folklore to use, but if anyone creates or has created a story involving the idea that all this (gestures at current society) is mass Wendigo-ism, I will be the first to read/watch/buy/share/champion.
Anybody have recommendations like this? @horrorbooks@horror
