@ElizabethLeeCo @horror I have a long term love of folklore. Angela Carter's book - and this adaptation, really worked for me back when I watched it.
The only film to have had a surreal/magical realist approach that's come close is the Estonian movie November:

I love this film so much. It's a whole mood like no other. Sexy, disgusting, disturbing, stylish and way ahead of its time.
