It's a solid, relatively smart #slasher.
It's definitely a #HORROR#movie w lots of gore. Roth's stuff always seems +5 pts too mean spirited for me. Maybe it's that his gore is so realistic, or that I don't find his movies joyfully deranged so much as misanthropic.
While I appreciate that it got made, & ALSO how many things from the OG #Grindhouse trailer got incorporated in some way, I still feel like the 2007 faux trailer is the superior movie, lol.
@stina_marie@horror Good to know, I’ve generally shied away from Roth’s work, it’s not bad per say I just prefer things that are really heavy to have more layered narrative and for the more purely gore oriented ri have a certain joyful quality to as you put it.
@LeeDot@horror I'm the same way, and I WILL say that this is probably the most accessible/"commercially tame" of his movies. And that DOESN'T mean it's tame, at all... Just more so than his others, lol. He seems like a relatively cool, knowledgeable guy that sincerely loves horror (in everything I've seen his speak in) but his movies generally aren't my jam, personally.
I like that movie, though I remember the last stretch of the movie being stupidly obvious though, and certain element of the story just gets forgotten and irrelevant,.
@stina_marie@horror I liked this, nice to able to see a slasher made with a budget and put on the big screen rather than buried in the depths of Amazon Prime. Went a bit too hard on the "who dunnit" though, I think it would have been better with a faceless Micheal Myers type killer.
@DanChilton@horror Possibly, but only if they had made that very clear in the beginning. It WAS nice to see a slasher get the (relatively) big budget treatment, for sure!
