Quite desperate.

I know people that don't know much about Argentina think this was all a given (ie. the results electing someone like Milei) but seriously, the country has been fucked for some time. Always mild growth at best and recessions at worst, defaults, more bailouts by the IMF, etc. And a lot of this (most all of it) happened under the Peronists and other centre-left parties. They have a shit ton of government jobs which not only absorbs a ton of money but also is just rife for abuse. Let alone the pensions you're incurring. Inflation is rampant and has been for some time due to all the above issues. It's why dollarization there was such a topic (ie. ditch the worthless argentine peso and switch to the USD).

Seriously- it seems like a no-brainer to never elect someone like Milei but they truly are that desperate. The government has been mismanaged for decades. Not at all saying Milei is the answer but it is easy to see why some people would be willing to take a shot when you're been mired in the mud for so long.

Edit- I myself am not Argentinian so maybe a couple of my details could be further clarified by someone with direct knowledge. This is basically a short synopsis I made after having read about international affairs for years and following their history.
