I'm very pleased to report that Emily Tesh's 'Some Desperate Glory' is every bit as good as all the hype has said it was.

Or at least, the first 304 pages of it are. Haven't finished yet.

Update! Have finished. It is all very good.

Maybe a little bit (well, a lottle bit) of deux ex machina* but it felt rather earned by the rest of the book.

*or perhaps deus in machina, iykyk

@ergative the first half is very good. the mid point is amazing. And there's neat stuff in the second half as well.

@quidcumque @ergative I might have to give this another try at some point. The content warnings alone scared me off it!

@leapingwoman @quidcumque There is nothing in the book that is worse than any biting social commentary space opera. All that's different about this one is that it is self-aware enough to put the content warnings in place.

@ergative @quidcumque that makes sense. I will remove the Too Scary tag and add it back to my TBR list! Thank you.

@leapingwoman @ergative the content notes ARE accurate, though, so if there's something you really can't do in there, don't do it. It has some graphic violence, but some other bad things don't happen onscreen.

Enjoy it!

(My thoughts and reading notes are tagged - some might be spoilery though)

Ooh, thanks for the pointer re: reading notes. I've just perused them. Spot on, I agree with them all!
