With the most likely imminent loss of my day job, I'm thinking of changing my patreon back to my writing.

Would it be too confusing if I had people able to subscribe either by my website, Patreon, or Ream? (Either same benefits each place OR same benefits with bonus short stories on my website.)

I've got a serial idea in the works and I hope to dive into it no later than June.

@KitMuse

Reader here; as someone with a very limited budget who needs to pick and choose who and where and how to support creators, the suggestion of "same benefits everywhere (for the same $$), with a bit extra offered at the place YOU get the most back" makes the most sense and feels the most fair..

It allows people to make the choice to support you either on the platform they already have or where it does you the most good, being assured they aren't missing out elsewhere.

Decidedly NOT confusing, however I would specify or provide a REASON for the things to be available. "To appeal to a wider base" is a given, but doesn't really seem to be enough to generate interest.

If it's just simpler to have only one, then having more than one can create more questions that it offers solutions in the eyes of your potentials. But if having the alternative solves some sort of issue or scenario, EVERYONE can get on board and tend to support it.

@KitMuse @bookstodon Can I vote for different sites with the same deal at the same price?
I suspect you'll find the admin gets very messy otherwise.
Patreon is usually very convenient for me as a patron, but it has a history of going through periodic upheavals that try to screw over the creators, so having an alternative up and running is probably prudent.

Are the all subs at the same price points/reward levels? Are you offering basically just different 'locations' (ie: 'A' doesn't have a patreon acct, but they have a ream acct)?

How much more work is it for you to maintain and monitor all the different sites? What services does each site offer and are there sufficient expansion options?

@JoanGrey @bookstodon Thinking about offering exclusive stuff for my website since I'll get more money that way, but otherwise, correct, for people who want Patreon or Ream they can subscribe there. It shouldn't be too much work to update all of them. Good points!

not confusing for readers, it's common for serials to run in more than one place & at some point somebody may even ask why the serial isn't also on Radish, Vella, yadda yadda (I have simultaneously released to Radish & Vella, it's pretty easy, it's just different readers)

if you're afraid of becoming confused yourself, well maybe, but i don't think it's that much harder to upload/promote to 3 sites than to 1

YMMV

@peachfront @bookstodon Thanks. I'm thinking about Vella. Radish I had an account with and didn't get any traction there a long time ago and decided that they were too much hassle.

Radish used to be good for me because they ran their own promotions & were utterly trouble free for one of my genres but now... yeah... they quit doing that so i wouldn't put a focus there anymore because your odds of getting discovered at random are pretty low

@KitMuse @bookstodon i don’t understand the question, so my option would be clear if the ios developer didn’t make mastodon crash by polls
