Explanation: Caesar, in his youth, was kidnapped and held for ransom by pirates. Amongst other curiousities of the story is that when Caesar, then a relatively unknown young man, heard he was being ransomed for 20 talents (620kg/1366bs) of silver, he demanded they INCREASE the ransom to 50 talents! A man has to know what he's worth!
He also told them he was going to have them crucified while he was their prisoner.
After the ransom was delivered and he was released, he gathered a fleet, went back to the island where they were camped, captured them, and crucified them.
He also cut their throats before crucifying them, a display of mercy. Because he had to keep his promise to crucify them (what's a man without his word?), but he appreciated that they humored him while he was prisoner aboard their ship.
