i can recognize that sometimes getting away with massive amounts of fraud and theft is sometimes as easy as just being the right kind of charming and personable guy. that someone who talks smooth gets the benefit of the doubt. what i don't understand is how SBF's outstandingly bad interpersonal skills don't seem to immediately disqualify him from getting the starry-eyed treatment he got (and still gets). is it really just the fact that he's rich?
I went to check if he is tall, since tall people just get bonus charisma for no good reason. I found a pic of him next to orlando bloom, who is apparently 1.8m. He was a little shorter than that, maybe an inch or two, putting him at 1.75m ish, or 5’9”. So not that tall. So I don’t have any fucking clue either.
They say at one point that by being flaky, aloof and indifferent while rich SBF may have accidentally discovered the rules of pickup artistry for VCs, which is not a bad take.

(part 1) so pinker's argument is basically that as the poors have been adopting moralities of the rich, violence decreased, and then he's zooming in to 60s-90s period to say that violence increased because The Elites™ have become less culturally influential. first, it reads a lot like a priest getting all worked up at sunday school about these infidels and how they are all without morality and if you're becoming atheist, then you'll kill people!! so you have to keep these moralities of current elite, lest you slip into murderous barbarism. and second, it's lead, it's always been lead (and things like restricted access to abortion, and later invention and rollout of effective antipsychotics and fuckton more things. people are complicated, that's what makes them people)
