I think I am a 5. I feel like I am imagining an apple but then I am not sure whether I "see" the thing I am imagining or not. It's weird.

Is there a way to completely block users from an instance? Comments and posts? (Technical question)

Howdy, so while I'm able to block all posts from hexbear.net accounts, it seems there's no way for me to block all their comments on instances they're federated with. I'd rather not leave some of the communities that are still federated with them, but I would like to be able to block or hide all of their comments in the threads....

How did you get into coding/programming?

I've always had trouble getting into coding/programming because I've never truly dedicated myself to it. Mostly, this is because I kinda always lose momentum to learn it. I'm a heavy FOSS user; I love coreboot/Libreboot and am interested in getting into firmware development. I've already helped test hardware for Libreboot and...

I started learning Python in middle school and completed some projects that I wanted to make. That's how I got into programming.
Now I use Rust for my hobby projects and C++ for school.

I always were fascinated by computers so it was easier for me to get into it. But if you can find something that might get you motivated to try to program, I'm certain you'll get into it.

I agree. Cryptocurrency will probably never be the solution for this. I am hoping for GNU Taler instead.

Why can I see some communities while logged out, but not while logged in?

This seems to be random. These are communities on the instance I'm logged into. AFAICT I'm not being blocked in these communities. I'm not even sure if mods *can *block someone from seeing a community. I'm guessing this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a thread on it.

What does the world think of India?

I am an Indian and I have noticed that Indians are way too proud of their country for some reason and at the same time lack any civic sense towards it, they are extremely loud and extremely proud. We feel like the world revolves around India and our culture is superior to that of others. Also, a considerable chunk of the...

While I do think it would strengthen the security, anyone that can trick someone into giving them their SSN can also trick that someone into giving them their private key.

This would be advantegous for everyone, but private keys would still be stolen.

I'm all for a cryptography embracing government though. A GPG key is far superior to a short number sequence that can be predicted easily.

Although not great, where I live, at least, we have a way to digitally sign digital documents using public key cryptography.

One thing is that I believe we will eventually have cryptographic keys assigned to us instead of those insecure SSNs. But who knows when that will become reality.

Asudox ,
@Asudox@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. I am. At least nice to people who are also nice to me.

If an artist trains an image generation AI on their own digital art catalog, should they be able to get a copyright on what it produces? When does a tool change from a tool to a non-human creator?

Under US copyright law, only works created by humans can be copyrighted. Courts have (imho rightly) denied copyrights to AI-generated images....

Asudox Mod ,
@Asudox@lemmy.world avatar

Probably not. After all, it can be justified by saying that the AI got the inspiration from the artist's drawings.

The best response to every insult is "ok".
Say that and walk away.

I keep having to login to Lemmy on any iPhone browser every time I navigate to a new page. Is there a way to keep me logged in?

The title really. I tried Firefox, Safari and Chrome, they all behave the same way: I have to re-enter my credentials almost every time I refresh the page or navigate to a new link within Lemmy. Especially on iPhone this is very annoying (since accessing your saved passwords requires entering a code). Is there a way to extend...

[QUESTION] Flatpak or AUR?

I've been using arch for a while now and I always used Flatpaks for proprietary software that might do some creepy shit because Flatpaks are supposed to be sandboxed (e.g. Steam). And Flatpaks always worked flawlessly OOTB for me. AUR for things I trust. I've read on the internet how people prefer AUR over Flatpaks. Why? And how...

I was usimg Kagi a few months ago. Then I started selfhosting a SearXNG instance. I love the customizability.
I dislike how they are also getting into AI just like other big tech.

Self hosting is better than using someone else's product.
I also want to self host my email, but they say it's a pain in the ass and hard to maintain.

Do you leave a tip for housekeeping if you're only staying one night in a hotel?

Is it a 'thank you for prepping my room' or 'please clean my room today'? If you tip post cleaning, it's likely going to someone else the next day. Many hotels now only do housekeeping on demand. How do employees feel about this - do they miss the tips or are they happy for a less stressful workday?...

Asudox ,
@Asudox@lemmy.world avatar

I was surprised when I first heard about workers getting tipped regularly in america. It's crazy.
